Last Blog for our Mississippi Trip

Hi Chris here, I just wanted to say a BIG Thank You to the entire team for making it a fruitful week in Mississippi. Camp Love and the families we served will be forever changed as a result of our work & witness in their community. I trust each team member has been changed as well. It is always a privilege & honor to serve those in need and do what we can to make a difference in their lives. I believe we have accomplished that mission this week.
Also it should be noted that our team member Cobi Kepner from Messiah UM has been the one who has been committed to keeping up the blog during our trip. It has been a great help to me personally and I think I will promote him to the title position of "Captain Blogger". Well done Captain Cobi !

The Days Between Beginning and End

The teams began wrapping up jobs and diligently continuing others...

The rehab on Mrs. Peleaz's home is finished to the point of waiting for inspectors to verify all of the team's hard work. JT and Butch have worked Joanne, Jane, Cobi and Don into a finely tuned construction machine and the end is very near on the job at hand. The walls have been framed and installed, the new door has been installed and spaced, the outside sheeting has been hung and hurricane straps are installed! The group worked extremely well together and accomplished more at this point than was expected for the entire week. An extra special thanks to JT for all his hard work and planning the project from the ground up and catch the mistakes that we made before they became permanent.

The roofing and wrapping job on the Ladner home is coming along after some slow going in the beginning. The uncooperative weather rained out work on Monday and Tuesday and some mid week illness of some team members left the job a little behind, but new recruits are on the way to help get the job finished on Friday. Chloe has been working hard, teaching the team the finer pints of installing a roof the correct way. The team has been bust wrapping the house and laying the ground work for and beginning the installation of shingles. Thanks to the crew for being flexible and keeping up with the changes in the plans.

The work on the parsonage is nearly complete as well. Ed, Earl and Dick are finishing up various jobs to help to make it a livable space in time for Thanksgiving. Thanks to them for all their hard work.

Lots of other jobs are being or have been completed. All of the team members are doing their part and making all of the tasks on the work site and back at camp operate smoothly. As Friday nears, keep us in your prayers that we may continue to do God's work through the rest of the week.

The Long Hard Road

Wednesday brought lots of progress to the teams. The house wrap job is complete and the team has moved onto installing the roof. The hardiboard installation job has been finished and the priming and painting has begun. Water heaters have been installed, leaks have been fixed, heating has been restored, interiors have been primed and painted and demolition is complete on other jobs. Here's a few pictures of our hard work and progress to date.

Tough jobs, dirty jobs, clean jobs, loving jobs

Dianne, Linwood and Dick worked on the installation of a counter top. This included making the measurements and cutting a hole out of the counter to later install the plumbing and faucet for the sink.

Before that could happen, they had to see who could get furtherest inside the cabinet with any help from anyone else.











Once Dianne had won that contest, they made sure the tops were level so they could install the counter tops and not have any eggs roll on the floor.

One of the houses required a new floor, wall and windows. The team determined a plan of action and started out by removing the windows, so they can be reused, followed by all of the paneling. Joanne was on nail duty and removed the nails from the paneling after they were removed. The paneling will be used to repair the lower portions of the rest of the house.

After the paneling was removed the sub floor was removed and all of the debris was loaded into a dumpster for removal. Next, JT made the precise measurements for the new floor and made plans for the leveling of the existing structure before raising the sections to install new bricks for the house to sit on.

Lastly, the lumber was cut to begin the installation of the new sub floor. The job is going to be dirty and long until it is completed, but it the team is full of determination and high hopes for getting the job completed.
